Background

WiTT was founded in November 2001 by a group of women executives all working in the communications and technology industries in the UK. These women realised that often they were the only woman in their organisation at a senior level and they set up WiTT to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and to share experiences.

Aims & Objectives

  • To network and meet other women who share a common interest in the telecommunications and technology industries.
  • To educate members on current and future trends in the industry.
  • To provide guidance and mentoring through the exploration of real-life career paths.
  • To share ideas about how to operate in the current work environment.

Organisation

Women in Telecoms and Technology Limited (WiTT) is set up as a company limited by guarantee.

The current Directors are:

Stephanie Liston

Stephanie Liston is a lawyer and a non-executive Director of Ofcom. With more than 14 years experience in the communications sector, Stephanie has been identified as one of the top telecoms lawyers by Legal Media Group and recommended as a leading individual in Legal 500 and Chambers. Stephanie is a co-founder of WiTT and vice chairman of the Communications
Committee of the IBA.

Annette Nabavi

Annette is a specialist in strategic partnerships, business planning and financing strategy and runs an independent strategy advisory business working with clients on business and financial strategy.

Previously, she was the CEO of XchangePoint Holdings where, over 3 years, she developed the company to become one of the fastest growing and successful metro broadband interconnect companies in Europe.

Before joining XchangePoint, Annette Nabavi was a Director at ING Barings and the Global Head of Business Development in the Telecommunications Corporate Finance team.

She joined ING Barings from the PA Consulting Group where she was a Senior Partner focussing on strategy and business planning for telecommunications and technology clients.

Annette has an MA from Oxford University and a doctorate from the University of Dijon, in France.

Anne Heal

Anne Heal became Director, Regulatory Affairs for BT in 2002. Previously she had had a number of roles in BT, including Director of Strategic Planning; Director, Business Development; Head of the Chairman's Office (and Head of the combined offices of the Chairman and Chief Executive). She has also had responsibility for building major networks and infrastructure in the South of England and originally joined BT to produce BT's sales and marketing materials.

Prior to joining BT Anne worked for the Ford Motor Company and a major UK advertising and communications agency.

Anne is a Sloan Fellow of the London Business School, has a Masters Degree in Management from London University and an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Politics from Somerville College, Oxford

Carolyn Kimber

Carolyn is the current Chairman of the Communications Management Association, CMA serving for the second time in this office She has been a CMA member since 1988 and was a Trustee for six years from 1999 to 2005. During that time on the board she was responsible for PR, masterminded the name change and re-branding project, and held the post of Treasurer. She was elected CMA Chairman for a period of three years, standing down at the beginning of 2005. CMA is a national charity working in the Communications Industry being an association of professionals from the user community. These highly skilled professionals represent both the private and public sectors coming from small, medium, and large enterprises. CMA has a programme of events that provide opportunities for improving knowledge, providing information, enabling networking and representing user views to Government and the Regulator.

Carolyn was delighted to be invited to join the Board of Women in Telecommunications and Technology, WiTT a group founded in November 2001 by a group of women executives all working the communications and technology industries in the UK. They realised that often they were the only women in their organisation at a senior level and set up WiTT to provide a forum to exchange ideas and share experiences. Carolyn is also an elected member of the Parliamentary IT Committee, PITCOM, Council and serves on its Programme and Communications Committees – helping to provide a programme of events to MPs to further their understanding of the ICT industry and its impact upon their constituents’ lives.

Carolyn’s career has spanned International Global Networking Management for a Trans-Atlantic Container shipping company, Independent Consultancy for a variety major transportation organisations, being part of an SME start up offering CRM analysis services, strategic management support working in a Corporate offshore call centre and external relationship activity for a number of UK clients. Through her working life Carolyn has been on the user side of the industry and her passions have been High Quality and fair customer service, respectful staff management and value for money in all walks of life.
